Actually, we'll be waiting until closer to the end of August to open registrations. We aquired an awesome new sponsor for our LAN parties and we'll be working out some juicy deals for you gamers, so hang in there. Big Grin

HEY Painless!

Yeah I couldn't make GEEX either. Was just pondering the old days when there were so many LAN's to choose from. God I miss those days.

What's up Clyclone. I made it to GEEX and I played in the TF2 tournament. I love TF2!

Yeh, I remember all those LAN parties. Still though... I really dislike CounterStrike... not one ounce less than I disliked it during the KillInc days. If I could go back to those days I would banish CS from our LAN parties. CS turned a fun LAN into some kind of monster that turned out to suck. All the hard work it was to put together those LAN parties too... funny though, Im starting them again next month. This time around... no competitive CounterStrike and no WAN access. Just fun LAN gaming.

You might want to try and get something just to auth steam with, or no TF2 for you. Sad Damn Valve... We've done some smaller parties with some friends (20-30 people) and had no access to any steam game because of their requirement to auth before actually running in LAN mode... Sucks, but you gotta...

How freaking ghey is that?! Damn, I guess we'll have to hijack some poor souls wireless.

Does each player have to authenticate this or just the server?
Each player. The servers don't have to authenticate, the dedicated server can run in LAN mode without talking to steam. But the client must auth to steam at least once in order to get to LAN servers... It's totally ghey, we had a small LAN party at a cabin with no chance of getting internet access, it's a good thing we only wanted to play UT3! lol But still, it's totally shit that you always have to check in, I guess it's because you don't have CD keys any more, so there's no other way to "unlock" the game...
Can't always have it your ways... There's two different perspectives.... people see fun in no competition and people only find fun when there's competition and prizes on the line... I don't see how you can judge CS to be the "monster" that destroyed LAN parties... I mean it ain't just about playing either but even spectating the games.... I would rather watch competition with developed strategies, tactics, and skills... it's fun... At geex, I was yelling my lungs out during every game.... I guess you can say Halo is gonna be the monster for console games now too since it's becoming more competitive than simple public fun.... I ain't saying your wrong but try to be somewhat accepting? It's not like I'm sitting here and bashing on TFT 2 and saying it should be banished for not being competitive... It's good to have variety... We're all gamers.. Can't we all get along?
That's cool. Im glad you like CS. Im not a huge fan of it... it seems kinda old to me. However, I had a friend that replaced all the gun sounds with different fart noises and that made it really a lot more fun to play. I had to delete that awhile back and I miss it... oh well.

What makes a great LAN is not banning one game over the other, Counterstrike has been and will be a game primarily for the competitive community, while other games may appeal more to the general gamer community. If this "monster" was banned from the beginning how much exposure do you think our lans would get by banning one of the most played games at the time?

I enjoy the competitive side of counterstrike because general gaming just doesnt cut it for me, I like to play a game that is well organized and requires strats and tactics to win rather then running around in a public server shooting everying that moves.

Thats not to say that general gaming isnt fun and appealing to everyone. Its just different point of views, but lets not have these different point of views spawn prejudice amidst games and gamers alike.

What makes P42 a great LAN is it appeals to both of these communities, the competitive side as well as the general gaming public.

I have to wonder though...why do you bash the game and hate it? Do you hate the game itself or do you dislike the community that plays it?

if the game feels ancient... go fresh and get competitive... IT'S CRAZY! Cool
Yea when we made the "switch" to source (we are still mainly a 1.6 team) it was more fun then I expected. It made the game feel more fresh and even though its not in our comfort zone its insanely fun to play on lan and compete!
as much as the p42 staff dislikes CS (cuz we don't play it), it will be offered at our events since there's such a large community of CS'ers here. At least as long as JeR sticks around. Wink
I dread the day that JeR is no longer around Sad
keep JeR happy then! Big Grin
