in the rules under cheating a rule violations it says "Any tampering with hardware or software that is deemed to give you an unfair advantage over the competition will result in forfeit and disqualification. This includes, but is not limited to, speed hacks, speed bindings through a mouse, keyboard, or gamepad, etc."
i use an inventory program that moves the hotkeys for inventory items from the numpad to some alt+key combinations on the left side of my keyboard. I do this since i play on a laptop and i don't have a numpad, so is this acceptable software to be running? I figure it is, but just checking.
"We will be playing XL (extended league mode) for the entire tournament. "
After these rules have been posted, they have released a new game mode, Captain's Mode -cm. It's basically a reworked version of XL, timings being put into play. The bans are the same 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1, you have 45 seconds to make each ban, then the picks follow 1-2-2-2-2-1, 45 seconds for each slot as well, each team is alloted an extra 45 seconds to cover lengthy picks/bans, if the extra time expires then the hero will be randomly chosen.
This seems like a nice way to keep the tournament official and moving. No 20-30min in chat drafts, No ridiculous time restrictions to select bans (ie XL mode).
CM mode actually varies quite a bit from -apxl. APXL has the latest 10-12 heroes banned because they are not considered balanced for league or tournament play. When the hero is considered to be balanced after months of live play, then they will eventually be drafted into the available heroes for XL mode.
I myself don't care which mode we play, as long as we know in advance and can prepare for it. CM mode may be funner, but XL is more balanced.
you can find it at
http://www.getdota.com/changelogs/index/20 very bottom of page, natrually the heroes added after .52e are added in CM mode, To address this problem We could list the banned heroes in the rules to prevent a similar problem we had last tournament, teams picking heros like puck, etc.

pm me with more details of what the problems were, since I didn't manage the dota tourney, I wasn't aware of them.
the problem was in -xlm there are certain heroes that are not allowed and most of the teams playing didn't know which heroes weren't allowed, so in the pregame picks/denys they were picked
I need a list of which heros aren't allowed (I don't play dota, so I don't know what they are).
Storm Spirit, Sacred Warrior, Templar Assassin, Faerie Dragon, Clockwerk Goblin, Admiral Proudmoore, Windrunner, Geomancer, Shadow Priest, Pit Lord, Undying, Invoker, and most imbalanced of all Dark Seer. Basically the Last 5/6 in the Dusk/Dawn Taverns.
As long as the new heroes are banned, I think playing the latest version(6.56?) and doing CM mode would be best.
My vote:
Latest map version
Ban the latest 13 heroes(heroes in lesson's post)
-CM mode
k, I'll get the rules updated this afternoon.
rules are updated, sorry for the delay.
Dota tourney rules questions
in the rules under cheating a rule violations it says "Any tampering with hardware or software that is deemed to give you an unfair advantage over the competition will result in forfeit and disqualification. This includes, but is not limited to, speed hacks, speed bindings through a mouse, keyboard, or gamepad, etc."
By Speed bindings do you mean making hotkeys to inventory different? Like to a mouse or to another letter?
Was just wondering if it was ok to use a program called Warkeys, which reassigns hotkeys using the text file... Im not sure if your aware of this program or not.. heres a link to a FAQ about it lol.
http://warkeys.sourceforge.net/faq.php
Any clarifying would be very nice, and very appreciated, sorry if my question is nub or too complicated. haha
speed bind would be like using an app that executes multiple key strokes at once. re-assigning keys isn't a problem.
I don't see a problem with this app, but feedback from the other dota players?
Yeah the app is fine, its just a tool to compensate for the lack of easy key-binding built into the game. If the game were a couple years newer it would have this built in.
*edit newer
thanks. warkeys is legal.
so with the all the prebanned heros and the 8 from -CMode we are really eliminating too many heros imo. i really think u ban the 2 new heros and leave the 8 bans open for the team to decide. i know most disagree but its how leagues are played
Leagues yeah, but not Tournaments. There might be some tournaments which allow all the new heroes, but for the most part all large tournaments use -apxl to determine which heroes are banned. The 8 heroes which are banned in -apxl are the ones that are currently banned in the P42 tournament.
precisely, this is a tournament, not a league.
plus we do what we want, how we want, when we want.
thats fine and understandable. i was just simply adding my two cents to get some feedback. it will be fun regardless. gl hf all

So, just to clarify... I use DotaKeys just to remap keys. But, DotaKeys would be illegal because it supports macros, right? I guess I'll look into warkeys...
right, if the app supports macros, it's illegal.
i just wanna make sure im understanding this correctly... we have 13 prebanned heros and then the captians are going to void 8 more in thier draft. so 21 bannable heros correct?
Yes
