Ok, so there's gonna be some changes to the TF2 tourney with regards to how the maps are played, so I'm gonna lay this out now.

CTF Maps

  • 2 15 minute halves
  • The team with the most points after 30 minutes wins. One capture = 1 point.
  • Overtime - If there is a tie at the end of 30 minutes, the config will be reset and one 15 minute round played. Most captures wins.

Push Maps

  • Play to 4 points or 15 minutes and switch sides.
  • First team to 5 points wins the match or the highest score after 30 minutes.
  • Overtime - Restart config and play one round. The team that wins the round will be considered the winner of the overtime.

What's a push map? These are push maps.

  • cp_granary
  • cp_well
  • cp_badlands
  • cp_fastlane

Stopwatch (Attack-Defend) Maps

This is where we get a little more tricky and complex.
  • All stopwatch maps will be scored using the best of three (bo3) format. Each round, both teams will attack and defend. The first team to win two rounds, will win the match. There is no time limit for this map.
  • All stopwatch maps will be scored using the best of three rounds (bo3) format.
  • One round consists of each team attacking and defending once. One point is given to the winning team of each round (one round is equal to one point).
  • The first team to win 2 rounds of the three wins the entire match.
  • There is no time limit for stopwatch maps.
  • All stopwatch maps will follow an ABBA format: Team A attacks and team B defends. Next round, team B attacks and team A defends. If the third round is played team A will be the attacking team. By default Team A is the HOME team, but teams may agree to let the visiting team be considered Team A.
  • Match Reporting - After each team attacks and defends, the team who did so the fastest (or captured more points, if both teams fully defend) receives one point for that half (no extra point is awarded for successfully defending).

What are stop watch (attack-defend) maps? These are:

  • cp_dustbowl
  • cp_gravelpit
  • cp_junction_pro

It is HIGHLY stressed that your teams play in a server with mp_stopwatch enabled to understand the scoring.

There will be a scrim server at the event for each of these game types. I will also place a stopwatch server online this week.

I'm pretty confident that this will be the final map list for the event

cp_granary (May be replaced with cp_granary_pro)
cp_badlands
cp_well
ctf_mach4
cp_gravelpit
ctf_turbine
cp_fastlane
ctf_impact2
cp_dustbowl
cp_junction_pro

Class Restrictions

  • 2 Soldier
  • 2 Pyro
  • 2 Scout
  • 2 Sniper
  • 1 Medic
  • 2 Heavy
  • 2 Spy
  • 1 Demo
  • 2 Engineer

Teams that exceed the class restrictions must change class within 30 seconds or risk forfeit of the match. So, there are no scout rushes on round start.

It seems to me that coming up with 8 committed players to spend such a large block of time is rather daunting. Can we form pick-up teams at the event before the tournament starts?

Also, it seems kinda likely that with 8 people on the team, someone will flake out either before (or during) the tournament. Can we have some more leniency in the number of alternates allowed for the team and/or the minimum number of players needed to keep the team from being disqualified?
For example, could we have a certain percentage of our team be internet players (ie they live too far away to attend in person) instead of local players? This would drastically improve the chances of being able to have a full team.
No way to internet players. That would be LAAAAAAAAAAAME!!!! I'm sure there will be people at the event looking for a team.
I agree, it would not be ideal.

But not being able to compete in the tournament at all would be worse Smile

Yes, there are a lot of teams that are pugs at the events anyways.

I'll allow 8v7, or if we can't get enough full teams to do 8v8, I'll drop it to 6v6 the day of the event. Prepare for 8v8, but keep 6v6 in the back pocket.

NO.

I hope the event is 8v8. I already have my team ready and confirmed. If you do 6v6, then two people will be pretty upset and one of them won't be me.
I'll keep it 8v8 as much as possible. If we have to shift some pick up teams to fill 8v8, then that is what we will do.
Sounds good Peno!!! Keep up the good work.
ready coac
Any idea on what kind of prizes/video card models Nvidia is putting up?
nope
I know that there are 4 9600GSO's on there way Smile we are waiting for XFX to provide the other 4 prizes.

DIBS, viper.

EDIT: Also, will we be allowed to use achieved items for TF2 during the tournament or do the CEVO rules not allow them?

Thanks for the LAN and the TF2 tournament, organizers.

Now that I've seen what a good job you guys did at hosting this thing, I am considering making a serious attempt to get an organized team ready for the next one.
BTW, who won the tourney? I couldn't stay for the end.
karma won both TF2 and CS:S

didn't see this until just today, unlocks are ok until there's a decent way to restrict them without a massive amount of plugins.

Why would you want to restrict unlocks? I'd rather give everyone the unlocks rather than take them away from everyone.

The unlocks allow for more diverse strategy. For example, going solo heavy with the sandvich, using the axtinguisher to take out heavies/soldiers, using the flaregun to disrupt snipers, using kritzkrieg+soldier combo.

It would be better to just tell people "look, the unlocks will be enabled, if you want them, go to an achievement server before the tournament." They are _not_ hard to get.

some people will cry that they have an unfair advantage if they don't have them. but at this point in time, almost anyone should have most of the unlocks, even through regular game play.

Out of curiosity, how many teams were in the TF2 tourney? How many out of them were formed at the lan vs those formed before the lan?
There were a total of seven teams playing in both tournaments. Karma was formed before the lan however we had to add 3 players from our CSFrustrated team to fill the TF2 squad. I was one of the players who installed the game at P42. I believe for the most part besides 1 or 2 teams just about everyone there was a pug who formed at the lan.
2 teams for sure were formed before the lan, the rest were pugs.
