http://www.gotfrag.com/portal/story/43450/ ... CGS has been SHUT DOWN! For those of you who are not well-informed about this, CGS (multi-gaming league) has served as the backbone of CS: Source. I thought this matter would be considered pretty significant since it deals with the dispute between CS 1.6 and CS: Source.. Although CS: Source has risen to be the favorable version to be played at P42 and GEEX tournaments, CS 1.6 has not lost its popular reputation (as with most other games where old versions became oblivious)... There has been quarrel over which games should be played in the tournament aspects of Utah gaming events. Now that CS: Source is destined to destabilize within the next few months... GEEX and P42 should look into considering 1.6 back into game-play. CS 1.6 is still in play at major tournaments such as Intel Masters, WCG, ESWC, and A LOT (just check gotfrag.com). I'm not sure who is running the next GEEX tournament in April, but I do know that P42 administers most of game play that happens there... So hopefully you guys will be able to come together to discuss this matter... Anywho, yay for 1.6'ers!
oh and when you click the gotfrag link that I posted at the beginning of my topic... just click "Read feedback" under the article on the gotfrag page... you'll get a feel for what people think towards cs 1.6 and source Wink
I think if you are holding a tournament for the teams, then the majority prefer Counter-strike Source, regardless of what the CGS is doing. I think only one local team really prefers 1.6. If I am mistaken, and there are other teams that prefer 1.6 besides SureShot then speak up!!!
not this shit again...

let me summarize for those that don't want (or care) to read

"1.6 is a better game!"
"the hitboxes are better!"
"source sucks!"

Seriously, we've heard all of these arguements before (check archives.protocool42.com).

P42/GEEX is sticking with CS:S until JeR says otherwise.

I'm glad someone made a stand. Good job peno!
Geex will continue to be CS: Source so don't skimp on practicing. Regardless of the CGS's influence on the scene, the tournament scene in Utah went to CS: S entirely as of last year. We do not play this game or compete at local lans in UT because we have high hopes of getting drafted to be a professional gamer.
I never suggested to cancel Source or skimp on practicing... Not sure what you guys are really arguing about? I support Source just as much as I support 1.6, but I was merely wondering if this matter would have any future influence on Utah tournaments. I also thought it might be something significant to overlook and discuss. However... since everyone digressed sorta from that subject and started arguing something totally different... Why don't I join in? GEEX came to Utah to seek gamers of all sort.... on a local and NATIONAL level... They are attempting to contribute towards Utah's growing gamer scene and fully welcoming all gamers at large. I don't see why you guys are alienating out-of-state gamers?? Source may be popular among Utah gamers, but if GEEX is trying to develop on a major scale... Why not take 1.6 in consideration? Maybe it will bring attention to the many teams outside of Utah and encourage them to become involved in our gaming scene? ... It seems a little bias and selfish to not even consider change... haha but then again... I don't really care. Whatever you guys want to do, go ahead!... I'm just competing and voicing my opinion.. Don't gotta get all butt hurt Wink
we aren't alienating out of state gamers.

As GEEX has only had one event, I believe the organizers realized that they wouldn't get as much out of state participation for the first event.

They turned to P42 to manage the LAN tournaments, with that comes the experience and strength of JeR managing the Source event.

We've tried to do 1.6, but there were a lot of participants that had only source (typically bought retail) at past events, so they didn't have 1.6. The majority of the participants had source, so we went with a source model at P42. We tried to mix and match, but that didn't work out that great. Source has been the best fit overall.
With the competitive scene of utah in mind, source is the best fit.
In Utah in mind, source is it. For big events like geex that needs big sponsors to function source isn't the best idea. with all the pro players going back to 1.6 means most of the fans will move as well. Source will slowly dissipate and with that sponsors are gonna give up the game as well. By April i hope geex will still be able to have a Counter-Stike tourney. At this point i could careless which game is played, but for the tourneys to be able to keep happening you need to follow where the sponsors go, and that's a fact.
As far as spectator games go, CS sucks. The people watching the matches were nearly falling asleep at GEEX. They were all sorts of hyped for TF2, and the other console games, but when CS hit the screen, the masses who don't play CS were just watching thinking, "WTF? This is so boring! Every match is EXACTLY the same!", and I can relate. I'm sure there will be a CS tournament at GEEX, and I'm also sure that CS version will be Source. What I'm not sure of, is if the CS tournament will be shown on the big screens, simply because the matches are extremely boring to watch if you aren't a fan of the game.
CS is a lot like watching golf on TV. Its fun to play (I like it anyway) but boring as hell to watch.
FWIW

GEEX is still in it's infancy, so change can and will always happen. As it stands with only one event under it's belt, it's only really known to Utah gamers.

As it progresses and evolves and starts to attract out of state gamers, then the LAN game set played will be re-analyzed and adjusted as needed to target the masses.
Whatev... On a lighter note.... im excited for GEEX... first one was ran perfectly! awesome area too
