I love that we still don't have a choice. It's crappy filtered Cable or crappy slower bandwidth capped DSL. Utopia would have been so nice...
I think Utopia just needs some time to develop in more City's, and then it'll really take off...
funny that that this topic comes up, Hearts and I were discussing the growth of Utopia last night.

I'll let Hearts share what he knows.
Fill me in.

Remember that Comcast is also capped, although their cap is unofficial and pretty arbitrary. I think that DSL's performance is equal to that of Comcast. Comcast advertises higher speeds, but they are rarely realized.

Also according to this person Xmission caps Utopia usage at 100 GB/month.

Oh geeze, that just takes away all of the visions i had of getting UTOPIA...

Can anyone confirm that XMission blocks all traffic after the 100GB mark on Utopia? If so man.. the dream that is UTOPIA is more of a Nightmare.. I plugged out WELL over 100GB last month and Comcast didn't even cough.. Smile
they don't block, you just have to pay for the additional bandwidth.

you pr0n monkey.
I didn't even include my pr0n bandwidth... that's private!

But it's still faster. and the cost per GB over the limit isn't much. Plus, if you need the cap removed, you can pay a bit more for a business type of account. They start at $40 for the 100GB capped 50 Mbps up and down, and according to this person, the BW limits aren't heavily enforced. I'd rather pay $40 for the faster + capped, than $57 for the crappy 384 Kbps up shared cable connection.

Well that is bullshit Xmission Utopia customers are capped at 500GB with a 50Mbit/sec transfer rate both ways. Every 500GB block after your first 500GB costs you $50, and yes you have to purchase it in blocks.

As far as, any new Utopia news... you will all just have to wait.

Actually Xmission does offer a 15Mbit/sec 100GB capped connection too.

Sounds like bandwidth suicide, for $15/month more you don't limit yourself by 400GB
Looks like Utopia is struggling. http://www.sltrib.com//ci_9036385?IADID=...sltrib.com

I bet Qwest and Comcast are filled with glee.
