Tournament Play

*

Competitors are required to be punctual for their scheduled matches, and are only allowed a ten-minute grace period before they are forfeited. While tardiness is not tolerated, it is at the Tournament Director's discretion whether or not to extend the grace period in specific instances (depending on the importance of the match) or any other extenuating circumstances. GEEXPO remains impartial to league competitors, but will make exceptions should it be for the better of the tournament. Repeated cases of tardiness will not be tolerated.
*

Scheduled match times represent the time of the actual match start, not the time that a competitor must report to the match server. Competitors must report to the match server at least 5 minutes before the scheduled time.
*

Competitors may not leave the tournament match between halves or before overtime. Teams will be allowed 5 minutes before the start of the overtime match.
*

Any player must be able to provide demos and screenshots if requested by a Tournament administrator. Failure to comply will result in team disqualification.
*

Final standings for the Counter-Strike Tournament will be determined through a full double elimination bracket as outlined in the tournament rules. The cash purse will be awarded as the final standings reflect.

*

If a tournament server crashes before, the server must be restarted and the game's score is reset to 0-0.
*

If a competitor’s computer crashes no restart of the match will occur.

Competitor and Spectator Conduct

*

Competitors will conduct themselves in a reasonable manner, maintaining a friendly and polite demeanor to spectators, competitors, members of the press, tournament officials, and to other participants of the event.
*

Competitors will refrain from the use of vulgar language during the entire competition. Teasing competitors during matches is prohibited. All rules of conduct also apply to chatting through the game console.
*

Competitors are expected to compete in a professional manner. Throwing a match, halting play without cause, or showing a flagrant lack of effort will be construed as a violation of player conduct, and will result in match forfeit and disqualification from the tournament.
*

Spectators may connect to SourceTV broadcast only. Spectators are not allowed to join the match directly.

Cheating and Rule Violations

*

By registering for this event, the participant agrees to be bound by all rules and policies set forth within this document. Failure to comply may result in disqualification at the discretion of GEEXPO and/or GEEXPO Event Staff.
*

Any tampering with hardware or software that is deemed to give you an unfair advantage over the competition will result in forfeit and disqualification. This includes, but is not limited to, speed hacks, speed bindings through a mouse, keyboard, or gamepad, etc.
*

Any action viewed by a Tournament Admin to be in violation will result in one warning issued. A second warning will result in disqualification from the tournament.
*

Tournament Admins reserve the right to change the tournament rules if fraud or deceit is determined.
*

Disputes must be addressed by the Tournament Admin. Decisions are final.
*

Multiple disqualifications may result in suspension from future GEEXPO events.
*

Any form of cheating, including but not limited to ping flood, DDoS attacks, server crashes, etc, will result in team disqualification.
*

A Tournament Admin reserves the right to disqualify any member or team at their discretion at any time, at any stage within the tournament. No prior warning of the participant is required.

*

Any competitor or team accidentally utilizing ANY exploit or bug in a map or game will forfeit that round and all remaining rounds for the half. Players need to be responsible for their actions in regards to know map or game bugs/exploits.

*

Any competitor or team attempting to use ANY exploit in a map shall be immediately disqualified. If you have a question regarding a particular tactic, ask a tournament official prior to the match.

*

Any player who is disqualified forfeits any and all rights to a refund on event registration fees.

Just a lil update and some information on the Geex Counter-Strike portion of the tournament. Basically Geex is an exposition, and as such we should not expect the same environment as a BYOC. For starters, the tournaments will be played on Dell Sponsored Tournament PC's.

I'm hoping that this isn't really the situation, and that BYOC participants can compete in all tournaments, as well as the "Sponsored PC" Smile

If its not going to be BYOC, or the option, is there going to be time for all the teams to practice on the computers before the css tournament starts? :\

There will be a BYOPC section, and they will be able to play against the sponsored PCs, so lets just stop that rumor now. If things change, I'll put my foot in my mouth, but if it doesn't come from me, then don't believe it. Wink

JeR you should definitely include something that tells us whether ornot we can bring our own peripherals i.e. Mouse, Keyboard, Headset, Mousepad.

These things have a huge effect on how you play!

Also, you should post the prize pot as soon as you know what it is! My team is still debating on whether or not to come, depending on if we think it is worth it! (a couple of our team members have to travel to attend, and that costs $$$$) :O
Thought I had that in the rules actually, I'll get it added to the master rule set.

As with all BYPOC events, you'll need to bring your own peripherals. I suspect that we should be able to accommodate for the sponsored PC's as well.

Prizes are still be determined I believe. p0wd3r will have that info once it's available. Smile
# BYPOC peripherals

* Participants are expected to provide their own keyboard, mouse, headset, mouse pad, gamepad, etc.

# Sponsored PC peripherals

* The sponsored PC's will have basic peripherals provided. Participants may elect to bring their own keyboard, mouse, mouse pad, headset, gamepad, etc. If you choose to bring your own peripherals that require drivers (i.e., Logitech G15, Nostromo N52, etc.), you MUST bring the device drivers as well. You must also contact the tournament admin staff no less than 30 minutes before match start to ensure that your perepherals are connected and function properly
Do we know if it's going to be mr 12 or 15? I noticed on the "official rules" that it was changed from 12 to 15. Is this going to be kinda like old cal rules?
15 rounds, the final rules are at http://geexshow.com/content/GEEX08_CS_S_...062308.pdf

so yeah, kinda like old skool cal rules, but with more cowbell.

any questions on the rules, hit JeR or me up.
Sorry, I know you guys probably been asked this a lot but... its BYOC only right? because I checked up the tournament info on the geex site and it said "All tournament rounds will be played on tournament PCs on the tournament stage in the main exhibit hall."... just wanted to clarify some things?.... thanks =)
We've been given a total of 12 tournament PC's, now I am no mathematician but the logic in completing a 16 team tournament with 12 pc's is just not possible. Day 1 will be a preliminary day to weed out 8 teams, Day 2 will consist of the elite 8 tournament. There will be no double elimination on Day 2, it will all be best of three matches played on tournament comps.

*edit: Rules are going to be MR12, I dont know where the idea that old school cal rules would be coming back. We will be using the current caleague config.
wait what? Jer... get on kinetix vent.. or go to #utahgamers and pm haxon.... haha i think i know what you're saying but not really? Go GO GET ON

updated the master rule doc, now it's just waiting on geex to update the pdf on their site.

There was a mistake on the rules section that was transferred to Geex that said that the tournament would be run on MR15 ruleset. This is however, not correct, the tournament is going to use the CAL CSFrustrated Config which contains a shorter roundtime, 16000 startmoney, and maxrounds 12.

yeah i got that part down.. but i meant with the tourney pc's... so let me get this straight.. on the first day, it's gonna be byoc to sift out the elite 8.. then on the second day, the elite 8 will compete on tourney pc's on stage?.... I think thats what you were saying.. just want some clarification
still hasn't been fully determined yet.
The tourny PCs will probably be used for some of the more "interesting" matches through the beginning of the tournament as well.
Using Tourny PC's are a good idea, but when we use them it should be a Tourny PC only day. going back in forth from computer to computer fixing mouse/gfx settings can be really frustrating and time consuming
Point taken.

The matches on the sponsored machines could be done with team A and Team D all the time, until the finals, or something like that. There will be a shoutcaster there broadcasting the matches, so the choice to play it on the sponsored machines will be ultimately up to the gamers involved in the match, until the semifinals/finals, where there will be no choice.
i like that idea. so the players will have to play on the tourny pc's in the semifinals and finals no matter what? That's a great idea though.. I'm excited to see the matches be shoutcasted! I have a question though... Is there any insight on what the specs of the sponsored comps will be?
not yet.

from what I understand, the machines are running 8800gt's, all core 2 duo
2.0ghz or greater procs, 2 gb of ram etc. should be fine. gbx is providing
all the displays for the tourney machines. 19in samsung widescreens.

Very Nice!

I'm excited. SPREAD THE WORD GENTS lets make this at least a big of a LAN event as p42 was!
Oh and does anyone have some more specific info on what the "products" will be for our prizes?

I'm a little disappointed the cs winners wont be getting casht his time, but with the big names in the sponsors list hopefully there is some neat prizes nonetheless!
