The Construction has begun! As mentioned in the archive (http://archive.protocol42.com/viewtopic.php?t=4024) I'm making a new computer case that will showcase some of the villans of Star Wars. Asajj Ventress, General Grievous, Emperor Palpatine, and Darth Vader will each have thier own hand crafted display made by myself. I have begun sculpting the displays, because it was too cold today to work on Krunk's Punisher case (pics later Smile), each pic will link back to the gallery. First up is Asajj Ventress...

Here are the boxes. They are 9" cubed. Each will have 1/8" plexi on 3 sides and 1/4" masonite on the other 3. They will be arranged on the top of the case with about 1/2" of space between them all, making the case 18 and 1/2" square.

Here are some pics of the Asaj Ventress figure from the "Star Wars Unleashed" line.

Now for some pics of the sculpted terrain. Each figure in the Unleashed line comes with a little stand that has a bit of the scene the action pose comes from, so I'm going to try to make the surroundings similar to those stands. I'm still in the process of sculpting, however I have mostly finished the front portion and the signature plate.

That is it for now. The back walls of each display will be either painted, airbrushed, or colored with pencil, or a combination of all. I'm not very good at drawing landscapes, so this will be a bit of a challenge for me. I don't anticipate this case being finished any time soon (hopefully before the November 2008 LAN party), but after I work on it, I'll post updates. Enjoy!
Looking great man..
Wow, Now that's awesome.
I have finished the base for Asajj, here are the pics before cooking it, incase it melts into a pool of crap. One thing to note, I decided the tree that extended to the top of the box was out of place, so I made it a corroding tree. I think I'll make the rest of the scenery look like a mix of Dagobah and Endor, and I'll probably end up going to the hobby shop and getting some fake moss and other foliage for this particular diorama.

Next up, Grievous...
I like totally helped, psha yeah I did.
I helped with the tree trunk. pft.
And I like totally gave directions and my opinion, yeah and he took my advice. But only after he rolled a 16 sided dice.
Good call on the tree.. looks great!
Keep the pics and updates coming... can't wait to see more!
I can always count on p0wd3r coming up with something badass and unique like this.
that's because the rest of us are talentless clowns
I have to say, Sculpey is the best clay ever! I've baked it and it came out perfect! Now on to Grievous...
I ran into a bit of a wall with Grievous because of how the figure is oriented on it's stand. With Asajj I was able to integrate the stand into the design, Grievous however was a bit different, here's what it looks like...

As you can see, it is mounted on a little stand at about a 45° angle. And the figure stands high enough on it that if I keep it in the display, there isn't much room for customization. So, I'll be removing the stand and making a new one. I've cut a piece of wood into a 12x12x12 triangle and mitered the edge so it'll fit nicely in the square box. I then rolled out some clay using the wood as guide for thickness, and this is what I have...

I've drilled holes in the wood to allow the steel pins on his feet to poke through the wood. I've pressed the figure into the clay to provide a footprint and hand print so I know where to make the scuplture look punctured and mangled by his grip on the wall. And I'll probably also make other battle damage on the scene. More to come!
I've completed Grievous' display. Since it's 2:30 in the morning right now, I'm sure I'll need to give it a once over before I commit it to the oven. Again, I just made this up, trying to stick with something familiar to Star Wars and it's random stuff on the walls and such in all of the buildings. I also added in a couple of blaster hits and a bit of battle damage from a saber, once it's painted, these will look nice. Here is the diorama before the figure...

Ok, now I'm going to put the figure on it. You'll notice in the previous posts that his hand extends beyond where the base of his feet lie. I had to drill a large hold in the wood and make a spot for this. I think it came out pretty good.

That's it for now. Next up will be Darth Sidious...
