Don't know if anyone else noticed this, but I just caught it today.. Apple is trying to push Safari out over Quicktime Software updates!
Yeah, lhopi told me that. I don't install quicktime unless I REALLY need to see a new game trailer. And if I ever do, I remove all file associations that I are possible to remove in the mime types and I turn off the QTTask thing, and block updates. Apple is a horrible company.
they're just trying to push it out to get people thinking that "hey, this might be cool.. and it's apple, so i'mma buy a mac next"
It's a chicken shit move on Apple's part, if someone wants the software installed they'll go download it, don't trick people into installing it on their PC's.
MickeySoft has been doing shit like this for awhile..
Microsoft is passing down their software to Apple users via some other Microsoft Software updates? Microsoft stopped supporting Internet Explorer on Mac back in 2005.

I don't think its really the same thing if they are passing down their own software to people who use their operating system.. thats not crossing "genres" so to speak like Apple is doing, trying to sneak their software onto Microsoft PCs.
I didn't mean that mickeysoft was forcing their software on apple users.. I meant that mickeysoft forces their software on windows users.. IE7.. WGA.. same concept, just not the cross platform shove down your throat.
I bet if you just blindly click "install" it'll make itselft your default browser without prompting. Anyone want to confirm?

Also, IE7 was NEEDED and WGA is just something to help them protect their own software. I'm sure Apple has similar things in place so not every internet user has access to their updates unless they have a valid license, etc... Apple is a terrible company.
yer just a microsoft fanboy. Big Grin IE7 is an improvement over IE6, but where they forced IE7 (eventually) onto everyone, and required WGA to even install it.. All they're trying to do is force the user into owning a legit copy of the OS, increasing their profit margin.. Why is Apple so bad of a company? Microsoft has done plenty of shitty things over the years...
I guess it's just dumb to want people to pay for the products you make. Apple is horrible because of how they force the retailers to take no profit from their products. Ever notice why all coupons and discount sales specifically state, "not available on ipod or any other apple product"? Apple sucks, and Steve Jobs is the biggest greedy douche bag ever. MS made some bad business choices, yes, but every company does, and they have since cleaned up their act but everyone just keeps hounding them. Linux isn't a viable solution either because your average grandma won't be able to work it because every one of the thousands of different distros changes little options here and there. Even shortcut keys aren't the same accross all programs because 14 year old A thinks CTRL+P should be paste instead of CTRL+V like most of the other developers. But when Apple forces it's product on you, it's OK, as long as it's not MS I guess. Cuz now that the Mac is intel based, it's still better, right? And I should be privaleged while using it, right? We should feel good about never having any choice of the matter other than to pay Apple's MSRP on their hardware, even though they don't make their hardware any more, right?

/que Heartsband and the "Awe Geez, not this shit again" pic.
//But it's true.
never saw the linux rant coming.. Linux is getting better all the time.. (so is Windows, but I'm not looking for a linux/windows flame war, we've had plenty of those already...) but really, should grandma be using a computer?

I've never looked at coupons for any apple product to be honest.. Honestly, I think most of Apple's software is horrid.. Itunes is a piece of shit, it's only loaded because that's what works best with the ipod so far..
Honestly I recommend Apple products to all my relatives for one reason and one reason only.. I won't have to support it when they break it. iPods are a MP3 solution for those that don't like any customization options in their players and can't do much else but hit a play button.

It says something about a company when their only PC advertising campaign does nothing but bash their competition. Seriously shouldn't you be talking about what your product can do or why it would be beneficial to the consumer to buy it? I guess if you can't say anything good about your product then you should just bash the competiton.

Just making a fair comparison as to which "Proffesionally developed OS" is a better choice for the masses, since Apple was first a software manufacturer, just like MS. And yes, Grandma had better be using a computer.

Next Best Buy coupon or any other electronics store coupon you see, read the find print, they all exclude Apple products because the retailer is forced to buy their shitty products at retail (or possibly 1% below retail +shipping), so no retail outlet can make any money on Apple products, only Apple. Sure, Apple spends more on advertising than most other companies, and retailers could choose not to carry the Apple products, but why would they stop? i[insert whatever] is so engrained in people's heads, it's a good way to get people in the door where the retailer can show people how crappy the iProduct is next to the comparable product.

Now that Apple is Intel based, there's nothing special about it. You are paying an extra $1k just to use their software. That company sucks. Jobs hardly donates any of his estimated $3.5bn to any charity, yet evil Gates gives more money to charity than any other companie ever. So by validating your copy (not like I do personally) you are essentially helping the Gates' give more money to various charities.

In regards to bashing competition, let's not forget the "Get The Facts" smear campaign that Microsoft pursued. Although I agree, Jobs is a douche, and if the Beatles were on stage when he quoted their lyrics at that convention, I feel comfortable thinking they would have thrown a guitar at him.
Microsoft ought to be scared crapless because Linux is getting so much easier to use.

I think that Microsoft's WGA and their registration requirements are akin to Apple polluting their music downloads with DRM. The RIAA finally pulled their head out and realized that non-DRM'd music downloads will actually help them in the long run. Microsoft needs to do the same thing with Windows. If they keep trying to crack down on the end user, those end users are going to pick something else.
Our questions have been answered....

hahaha, nice. So true.
Looks like Apple's little trick has worked out nicely for them

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/05/02/...e_triples/

FTA: "In surreptitiously slipping Safari onto Windows by way of the Apple Updater, Steve Jobs and his minions have tripled the browser's market share."
Microsoft would have been sued 5 ways from Sunday if they tried something like this that acutally caused them to increase their market share.
not to beat a dead horse, but the EULA for safari originally says you can't install it on winders..

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/03/26/...a_paradox/

then apple updated the EULA..

I bet someone at Apple got canned for that screw up.
