Full Version: Is Geex going to be a huge flop ?

Don't get me wrong, that is the last thing I want. A huge Expo + LAN would be the best thing to happen in Utah since the Olympics. But... the lack of information regarding.... EVERYTHING seems a little peculiar.

No updates on their site for over a month(minus buy ticket button and Exhibit Space Registration button) is just stupid. No forums, no information on any tournaments, no exhibit info, no speaker info, no lan party information, no lots of basic things. The exhibit is supposed to be IN TWO MONTHS ! If you expect professional gamers to be attending from places outside Utah, you aren't giving them enough time to prepare. I mean check out:
Xlan's website

Yeah I know its a bigger LAN and they have more experience, but they actually have UPDATES and FORUMS. I bet their page gets thousands of hits a day..... eager gamers checking daily for updates.. actively posting on forums etc.. Geex has nothing new.. and the lack of information regarding all of these tournaments is discouraging.

I know this post may sound like I am bashing on them.. but I'm hoping that they will pull their head out of their ass and give us something new to gnaw on.
Yes, there is a lack of information on that front... We're going to be meeting with them tomorrow about that same issue. Do you have any other suggestions that we can bring to their attention? Other than the need for a forum and new information...
Rules and prize information for every game. The rules a game will be played by can make a huge change in how a team will prep for it..
That is pretty much the only MUST I can think of right now.

But besides that.. just something to keep people excited and visiting their site. Make it feel legit and real =]
Cool. The tournament rules will be following our model, you can read them all in the help section under "Tournament Rules" (thanks peno!), the link is on the left menu, or click here http://forums.protocol42.com/misc.php?action=help

We will also be requesting control of the LAN party, and tournament portions of their site so we can put information there, since we'll be doing that part of it.
I haven't posted the tournament rules yet, sorry! I'll get them posted tonight.

hahaha, my bad, I thought you had already. So anyways, there's that out of the way. See, it's still a beta. Big Grin

PC Tournament rules now posted. The rules posted are branded for GEEXPO. They are similar to the rules that we have used at previous P42 events (and these will be the rules for the P42 event in November).

Sweet, step in the right direction =]

Dota map 6.50b? o.O

haha. I see they've released updates since I wrote the rules. Map versions are subject to change, etc.

Funny, on the GEEX site there's no mention of a map of the place and exactly where the LAN will take place. Evil
I'll be making arrow signs showing where to go for loading/unloading and parking. Other than that, we're on the ground level right inside the front door. You won't be able to miss it.
Is the main entrance on the east side of the building? Also, where a good place to park? Im not familiar w/ the Salt Palace unfortunately and GEEX site is lacking in this area imo.
Free parking for lan party members? I H8 parking downtown...
I can't get free parking. Sad We are in the Grand Ball Room, which is on the south east corner of the building, there is a loading area that we can probably use that is just off of West Temple on the south east side, it is just after the outdoor thinger, and before the big round tower thinger. There is a loophole in the parking for the LAN party guys though, I think one of the hotels, or the Salt Palace parking garage has a $7 per day parking price, but if you park on Thursday, and never leave, you only get charged for the one day. So if you are getting a hotel, or whatever, this is a good option. If you are sleeping under the table, or in your car, this also works.

grrrr.... sucks for me, probably going to be another 25 bucks for parking...

$7.00 per day. supposedly if you don't leave, you don't get charged again.
