http://www.gotfrag.com/portal/story/43450/ ... CGS has been SHUT DOWN! For those of you who are not well-informed about this, CGS (multi-gaming league) has served as the backbone of CS: Source. I thought this matter would be considered pretty significant since it deals with the dispute between CS 1.6 and CS: Source.. Although CS: Source has risen to be the favorable version to be played at P42 and GEEX tournaments, CS 1.6 has not lost its popular reputation (as with most other games where old versions became oblivious)... There has been quarrel over which games should be played in the tournament aspects of Utah gaming events. Now that CS: Source is destined to destabilize within the next few months... GEEX and P42 should look into considering 1.6 back into game-play. CS 1.6 is still in play at major tournaments such as Intel Masters, WCG, ESWC, and A LOT (just check gotfrag.com). I'm not sure who is running the next GEEX tournament in April, but I do know that P42 administers most of game play that happens there... So hopefully you guys will be able to come together to discuss this matter... Anywho, yay for 1.6'ers!

Overall, I thought the event was fantastic. I know Karma had a lot of fun playing in the tournaments and in the event as a whole and will be back for Geex 2009. I thought the CSS tournament was run very smoothly. It seemed to wrap up rather quickly, and I thought Jer did a good job handling everything.

I was also impressed how well that Sureshot played De_season and how E.10 took down the reigning champions. I'm looking forward to the next competition at Geex.

The TF2 tournament was also a lot of fun. It was actually nice having two people on my team who knew what they were doing (Ber and RonNation). They just told us what to do and we did it. :-) I liked the change of the 8v8 format, but I also thought it had its challenges (see below).

Possible areas for improvement:
#1. I think once you start a tournament you should play until completion without any major breaks. When we made the TF2 finals we had to wait about 4-5 hours to play in our final match. Most of us were ready to leave a few hours before that, and were pushed back with the breaks for the costume contest, mountain dew, trackmania, etc. Anyway, I think this is relatively minor but I think the tournament players would appreciate this structure because some people are only staying for the tournaments.

#2. 8v8 vs 6v6 for tf2. I am a TF2 noob and I will openly admit it. The only time I play the game is for lans. Anyway, after talking with RonNation(TF2 Pro) no serious leagues play 8v8. Although, we had a fun time playing that format, and prepared accordingly, I think it has some challenges. 8v8 is more tactical while 6v6 is traditional. I also think some of the teams had a hard time fielding 8. I think for geex the TF2 tournament should move back to 6v6. Just my two cents.

Anyway, Great job on the LAN. I know they are a lot of work to coordinate, plan, setup, etc. I know Karma had a great time and we appreciate all the hard work you guys put in!!!!

We will have a costume contest, for those that want to dress up at some point and participate. You won't be required to wear your costume for the duration of the party, if you don't want to, so feel free to bring it and get into it when the voting begins. We'll work out a prize shortly, but we're thinking it will be $50 and a case of energy drinks, well worth the effort! So get out your cosplay items and your fake teeth and have some laughs.

We have the following tournaments going on this year...

Trackmania Nations Forever, sponsored by Palit Multimedia.
WarCraft III:DotA, with a $500 first place cash pot
Counter-Strike: Source, sponsored by XTrac Pads, and also a $500 first place cash pot.
Team Fortress 2, sponsored by NVIDIA.

There should be some great competition going on and tons of fun. Prepays are open until Friday evening, you get a $10 discount for reserving your seat, so get to it! As always, chicks get in free! So have your ladies pay your way and chill all day on a blazing fast network. The door price is $30, same as usual. We'll see you there!
